Maine's Professional Certifications in Economic Development

In today’s global business environment Maine’s economic development professionals, both practitioners and their partners are faced with numerous demands from businesses and the public.  In order to stay competitive with other states and countries, Maine must have a cadre of highly qualified professionals at the state, regional and local level to rapidly and effectively address business needs.  The realities of today’s economic environment require professionals to be nimble, quick and highly responsive, as well as have a strong base of understanding in a number of disciplines.

Maine’s Professional Economic Development Certifications are designed to provide practitioners and their partners with the essential skills and knowledge to effectively meet the challenges of conducting economic development in Maine.

The program has been designed to be flexible to meet the needs of economic development professionals and their employers.  Depending upon their track, professionals take a set of required core courses and add elective courses to best prepare to meet the economic development challenges facing their community.

The certification program brings in experts in the field of economic development with an emphasis on the unique dynamics of Maine’s mix of rural, suburban and urban areas.  Courses are offered in one-day formats or online to make participation easier regardless of your location.  Course work includes best practices, cases studies and seminar-style classes.

EDCM’s regular programs and certification courses also provide opportunities for professionals to engage in required continuous learning to sustain their professional designation.
